The Goodwin Street Rehab

The Search

We look at dozens of rehab houses and make many offers before we ever get a home under deposit. It is one of those things that can make real estate exciting, but also monotonous at times. The piles of of paperwork and record-keeping alone can drive you to insanity. That is why, when we get a find like the Goodwin, we get very excited! This house has so many amazing features that we are really looking forward to the finished product.

The Initial Walk through

The secret is to find the beauty in the midst of the chaos and disrepair. This home has an ugly exterior, old windows, a rotting deck, outdated kitchen, and only one bathroom. On the surface, it doesn’t have much going for it, but if you have vision and can see past most of that, you can turn this ugly home into something of beauty and something that you would love to call your home.

Progress

Although there is still a long way to go, we are into the the thick of things and the house is starting to take shape. The exterior is prepped for our exterior crew to come out and transform the curb appeal, and a lot of work has been done on the inside. One of the main things we did is update the old drafty windows to new thermal pane double hung ones. We also completely remodeled the kitchen. We took out all the old cabinets and replaced them with modern functional cabinets and installed granite counter tops. We also remodeled the bathrooms. In this particular house, we added a master bathroom to what is going to be an amazing master suite. This room literally has it all: it has a fireplace, skylights, a large sliding door to the deck, a large closet, a tile glass-enclosed shower, etc. This is a bedroom that anyone would want.

Finishing Up

After months of hard work we are just about done! With these types of projects, you always discover a few things that need to be touched up or adjusted and this can add a little bit of time. We are really proud how this project turned out. The master bedroom is something we are particularly excited about. We took what was a large empty room, that seemed out of place, and added a bathroom and closet, turning it into a beautiful master bedroom. View the video above to see more.

The Final Product

We will be wrapping this project up soon, and in the end we will have a beautiful home for sale that will be a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home with a 1 car garage and level yard that will be great for entertaining or just sitting back and relaxing!
